7 Ladies Tailoring Tips for a Perfect Fit in Lahore
By Tariq Shahab · 20 September 2026

A beautifully stitched outfit starts long before the first seam. Whether you are ordering a shalwar kameez, formal suit, bridal dress, or everyday kurta, these seven practical steps help your tailor create a cleaner fit and a more comfortable finish.
1. Wear the right undergarments for measurements
Your measurements should be taken over the same type of undergarments you plan to wear with the finished outfit. This helps the bust, waist, shoulder, and armhole measurements remain accurate.
2. Discuss the finished fit, not only the size
Two outfits made from the same measurements can feel very different. Tell your tailor whether you prefer a close, regular, or relaxed fit, and mention where you need extra ease for movement.
3. Prepare the fabric before cutting
Some cottons and natural fabrics can shrink after washing. Ask whether the fabric should be pre-washed or steam-treated before cutting so the finished length and width stay reliable.
4. Bring a clear design reference
A front and back reference helps explain the neckline, sleeves, hem, embellishment placement, and overall silhouette. Point out exactly which details you want to keep and which ones should be adapted.
5. Plan around the fabric
A flowing chiffon, structured raw silk, soft lawn, and embroidered net will not fall in the same way. The cut, lining, seam allowance, and finishing method should suit the weight and behaviour of the selected fabric.
6. Attend the fitting when possible
A fitting allows the tailor to check balance, shoulder position, sleeve movement, trouser length, and the way the garment falls. For formal and bridal wear, a fitting is especially valuable before final finishing.
7. Check the finishing details
Before collection, inspect the neckline, zip, hooks, lining, hems, side seams, and embellishment. Try sitting, walking, and raising your arms to make sure the outfit feels comfortable as well as polished.
A good result comes from clear communication, accurate measurements, and careful workmanship. At Stitch & Style by Tariq, every custom order is reviewed around the customer’s preferred silhouette, fabric, and occasion.
